JP Ryan, MA
I am a Master’s Level Clinician at Old Town Psychology, pursuing my doctorate in clinical psychology from The Catholic University of America.
I take an integrative and evidence-based approach with my clients; based on what we discuss during treatment planning, I offer a personalized menu of options and allow my clients to choose the path that resonates most strongly with their goals of healing, growth, and recovery. There is no one-size-fits-all solution to life’s problems, and no one knows what works for you better than you.
To that end, I bring extensive applied experience with evidence-based treatments, including cognitive-behavioral therapy for depression (CBT-D), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), ACT for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR). I also have experience working with disordered eating behaviors, grief and loss, substance abuse, anger management, and workplace trauma.
In addition to therapy, I have a passion for conducting psychological assessments, and I strive to share that enthusiasm with my clients. Regardless of someone's reason for seeking assessment, I provide a supportive and encouraging atmosphere so that they can perform their best.
Outside of Old Town Psychology, I teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses in psychology and conduct research on suicide prevention, with a particular interest in the frontline role that clergy and chaplains play in suicide prevention.
