Research at Old Town Psychology

At Old Town Psychology, we have a passion for both clinical work and research. We believe our clinical work makes us better researchers, and our research makes us better therapists. We believe in creating new and innovative ways to improve people's mental health. We do this by conducting meaningful research, applying the findings to our clinical work, and disseminating the results so that the community can benefit.

We draw inspiration from our clinical work for our research. And we use research to offer evidence-based care to our clients. Our goal is to push the field of psychology forward in meaningful ways that enable us to provide better care.

Current Research Projects:

The global pandemic turned the world upside down. Single Millennials stuck in lockdown were particularly isolated during this time. So how did they find meaning when left alone with themselves? Read on to find out.

Attachment-Based Compassion Therapy is a novel treatment that promotes having compassion for ourselves and others. We’re currently studying the effectiveness of an online self-guided version of the treatment.

New Research Published:

Old Town Psychology has partnered with researchers at the University of Zaragoza to publish a self-guided version of Attachment-Based Compassion Therapy. This intervention can be used by anyone – either self-guided or with the support of a therapist.

We recommend it for individuals who would like to increase their self-compassion and improve their relationships with others. Through this intervention, individuals will gain a better understanding of how they relate to other people and address any harmful or negative patterns. The book also includes exercises, handouts, and links for downloadable audio files and meditations to make the experience fully self-applied.
