Licensed Therapist (LMFT, LPC, LCSW) - Couples Focus
We’re adding a couples and family specialist to our team. Old Town Psychology is a thriving, growth-oriented practice in the heart of historic Old Town Alexandria — and one of the DMV’s premier destinations for psychological care. We’ve built a strong reputation for individual therapy, and we’re expanding our relational services to meet the demand we’re seeing from couples, families, and parents who need expert support.
We’re looking for a licensed therapist whose clinical training lives in the relational space — someone who thinks in systems, not just symptoms. Whether your background is in Emotionally Focused Therapy, the Gottman Method, structural family therapy, or another evidence-based relational framework, we want to hear from you. LMFTs are ideal for this role; experienced LPCs and LCSWs with strong couples and family training are also encouraged to apply.
The Role
• Diverse caseload: minimum 25 direct client billing hours per week
• Couples & marriage counseling: In-person work with couples across all stages — dating, premarital, newlywed, parenting partners, long-term, and considering separation.
• Family therapy & parent coaching: In-person work with families and parents on communication, attachment, behavioral concerns, and family transitions.
• Individual therapy: A complementary in-person individual caseload across the lifespan to round out your week.
• Collaboration: Regular team meetings, case consultations, and a peer culture that values clinical excellence and continued learning.
• Growth opportunities: Build a specialty practice within a supportive group setting — with paths into supervision, training, writing, and presenting as your interests develop.
Why Old Town Psychology
We’re a growing practice with a premier reputation in Northern Virginia and the broader DMV. We’ve built our model around the things clinicians actually care about: a full referral pipeline, real administrative support, beautiful offices, and a collegial team.
• Competitive W-2 with quarterly bonus structure and robust benefits
• Strong, sustained referral demand for couples, marriage, premarital, family, and parent-coaching work.
• Your own dedicated, beautifully appointed office on King Street — not a shared room or hot desk.
• All referrals provided by the practice — no marketing or caseload-building expected of clinicians.
• Full administrative, intake, billing, and scheduling support.
• Collaborative, growth-oriented team culture with regular case consultation.
• Eight-minute walk from the King Street Metro station.
What We’re Looking For
• Fully licensed in Virginia as an LMFT (preferred), LPC, LCSW, or doctoral-level psychologist.
• Clinical training and experience in relational work — couples, marriage, premarital, family therapy, and/or parent coaching — grounded in an evidence-based framework (EFT, Gottman, structural, Bowen, IFS-informed, etc.).
• Comfort and skill working with high-conflict couples and complex family dynamics.
• Strong clinical foundation across common presenting concerns (anxiety, depression, life transitions, attachment, communication).
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build genuine, empathic therapeutic relationships.
• Collaborative orientation and a real interest in being part of a team.
• Willingness to work in person in Old Town Alexandria. Some evening availability is valued given client demand.
